Reduced seed set under water deficit is driven mainly by reduced flower numbers and not by changes in flower visitations and pollination

چکیده
Abstract Water deficit can alter floral traits with cascading effects on flower‐visitor interactions and plant fitness. stress induction diminish productivity, directly resulting in lower flower production consequently seed set. Changes traits, such as scent or reward amount, may turn pollinator visitations behaviour reduce pollination services reproduction output. However, the relative contribution of this indirect comparison to direct changes set are not fully understood. We manipulated water availability using rain‐out shelters a field experiment measured bouquet, morphology, phenology, interactions, Plant individuals Sinapis arvensis (Brassicaceae) were randomly assigned one three treatments: mean precipitation (=control), reduced drought period treatment. Our results show that decreasing lowers number flowers This indicates link between set, mass increases increasing number. The via visits has weaker remain relatively stable under decreased availability, whereas growth abundance decrease, potentially order allow investment more resources fewer maintain success. Thus, plants able compensate for trait expression, emission retain attraction. These findings indicate from stronger impact reproductive success than through altered expression generalist species. Flower numbers, pod production, pollen viability, and pistil function are reduced and flower and pod abortion increased in chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) under terminal drought
Terminal drought during the reproductive stage is a major constraint to yield of chickpea in many regions of the world. Termination of watering (WS) during podding in a small-seeded desi chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) cultivar, Rupali, and a large-seeded kabuli chickpea cultivar, Almaz, induced a decrease in predawn leaf water potential (LWP), in the rate of photosynthesis, and in stomatal condu...
متن کاملPollination Regulation of Flower Development.
Pollination regulates a syndrome of developmental responses that contributes to successful sexual reproduction in higher plants. Pollination-regulated developmental events collectively prepare the flower for fertilization and embryogenesis while bringing about the loss of floral organs that have completed their function in pollen dispersal and reception. Components of this process include chang...

This year’s research focused on further evaluation of potential alternate bearing with multiple year ReTainTM treatments. After three years of treatment with ReTainTM, there does not appear to be any negative effect on yield. There was a lower reduction in PFA than was expected, but this is thought to be unrelated to multiple year treatments. Treatment of a Chandler orchard with ReTainTM was do...
متن کاملPollination of Anthurium (Araceae) by derelomine flower weevils (Coleoptera: Curculionidae).
Cyclanthura flower weevils (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Derelomini) are identified for the first time as pollinators of multiple species of Anthurium (Araceae) in Costa Rica. The weevils are present on the inflorescences in small numbers during the pistillate and staminate phase of anthesis, and consume plant tissues and pollen. The individuals of one species of Cyclanthura can visit several Ant...
متن کاملFlower-shaped Micromotors Driven by Gliding Bacteria
A flower-shaped micromotor driven by gliding bacteria named Mycoplasma mobile (M. mobile) has been developed by using two-photon microfabrication. This micromotor is autonomously rotated by the collisions of M. mobiles gliding randomly on a substrate. The flower-shaped rotor is derived from the unique motility of M. mobile. We examined the motility characteristics of M. mobile using walls with ...
